The 23-year-old boy Neeraj Chopra became the second Indian to win an individual gold in the Tokyo Olympics on 7 August 2021, with his best effort of 87.58m in the javelin throw event. On this day Neeraj Chopra wrote history by winning the Gold Medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Thus, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) announced that August 7, will be celebrated as the ‘National Javelin Day’.
